Day 10 – Is your business working for you?

Hey challenger!

Day 10 of your 30-Day ‘Business Reboot’.

Your business can be your best vehicle to become financially free.

However, most small business owners, never consider generating passive income in their business, and thus keep on working for their money until the last day.

Remember… Passive income doesn’t mean you never have to work for this money… It simply means building a system that ensures that your business will continue to work for you even when you’re no longer working for your business.

So, if you’re not generating any passive income at the moment in your business (or you’re not generating as much as you’d like to) then today’s challenge is for you…

One of the easiest, fastest, and risk-free strategies to generate passive income is to package your knowledge and expertise in some way, so people can buy it and consume it without you having to be present.

In the Passive Business Income course – we call these packages, “Information Products” and you learn how to create information products, how to market them and how to monetize them – step-by-step, as a system.

When you implement that system, you begin to generate passive income, which in time grows enough to make you financially free – meaning you never have to work again because you have to, but only because (and if) you want to.

My topics are: self-testing, tips to become yourself, switch, stress release, Positive attitude, control the monkey mind, meditate, move, show others, repeat, try something new and last but not least PARTY!
I don’t know why but it needs to be delivered in software.

Actually, for me, they are the topics that I wrote before in other days.
    Natural healthy pregnancy,
    natural healthy birth,
    natural healthy (f)ea(s)ting,
    natural healthy activity and upbringing,
    natural health care and nurture,
    natural emotional health
All these become small online courses. And together it forms an online program.
Maybe I can create a year program where they work more on implementing it in their own lives. So the online program is deeper and stretched out. But basically the same info.

      Dear Ibolya,
You could make a list of topics that you want to give lectures on (specific for each target audience) and record a 2-minute introduction or story. This creates a basis for your audience and potentially will get you invitations to speak at the festivals/seminars you desire.
I love Hungary for their warm and sweet people and the beauty of their culture, language, songs and nature.

These ideas and execution of online programs trigger and motivate me hugely.
    1. I already launched an eCourse ‘Jouw levendige groene tuin’ Your lush green garden.
    2. I am creating a subscription year-round program on ‘Jouw mooie tuin in elk seizoen’ Enjoy your garden in every season.
    3. I want to record my book into audio chapters to reach the garden lover who is more into listening than reading.
    4. The recordings can accompany a challenge on successful gardening.
    5. I consider putting it all in English to reach a higher end clientele.

    Dear fellow challengers,
    – Which of these appeal to you?
    – Which motivates you in your choices to be curious?
    – What price would tags interest you to eventually buy?
Your reply is very much appreciated.

I looked at what is needed per month to earn 100,000 euros per year with a (sometimes partial) passive income product.
    My ultimate goal is:

    1) Sell my books at EUR 20 / =. To earn EUR 100,000 with this, I need 5000 buyers. This means 416 buyers per month worldwide.

    2) E-book to sell.
    Price per e-book: EUR 37 / =
    EUR 37 x 2703 e-books = EUR 100,011 / =
    2703 ./. 12 months = 225 e-books per month
So in order to earn EUR 100,000, I have to sell 225 e-books per month worldwide

    3) I want to make a 6 piece audio program from previously recorded workshops. Price per program: EUR 297 / =
    EUR 297 x 337 audio programs = EUR 100,089 / =
    337 ./. 12 months = 28 audio programs per month

    4) Teleseminars / conference calls. Price per previously included teleseminar EUR 47 / =
    EUR 47 x 2128 participants = EUR 100,016 / =
2128 ./. 12 months = 177 people per month who want to follow or listen to a teleseminar or conference call for EUR 47

    5) Online program / course. Price per program EUR 1000 / =
    EUR 1000 x 100 customers = EUR 100,000 / =
    100 ./. 12 months = 8.3 programs per month

    6) Subscriptions / memberships / strippenkaart. Price per membership EUR 67 / =
    EUR 67 x 1493 = EUR 100,031 / =
    1493 ./. 12 months = 124 customers per month

    7) Webinars Price per previously recorded webinar EUR 67 / =
    EUR 67 x 1493 = EUR 100,031 / =
    1493 ./. 12 months = 124 customers per month

    8) Tools / templates / apps. Price per piece EUR 97 / =
    EUR 97 x 1031 = EUR 100,007 / =
    1031 ./. 12 = 86 people per month who download my app.

    9) Live recorded 3 day transformational retreats / seminars. Price per piece EUR 497 / =
    EUR 497 x 202 customers = EUR 100.394 / =
    202 ./. 12 months = 17 people per month.
Seminars are a good way to position yourself as an expert. During a seminar you can sell all your other products from the stage and during the breaks. You can do it alone or together with someone else.

    10) Annual program). Price EUR 5000 / =
    EUR 5000 x 20 times = EUR 100,000 / =
    20 ./. 12 months = 1.7 training per month

    11) Online home courses. Price EUR 997 / =
    EUR 997 x 100 = EUR 99,700 / =
100 ./. 12 = 8 courses per month that everyone can download worldwide

    12) Personal coaching / VIP day or an individual (online) trajectory of 3 months.
    Price EUR 2000 / =
    EUR 2000 x 50 = EUR 100,000 / =

If I have made all these mainly passive income products, this means in theory that I can earn around one million euros a year. If I do them in English, they can be sold online worldwide.

    * affiliate linked to several programs we use (e.g. ActiveCampaign)
    *Online program about ActiveCampaign
    * Online program about online marketing
    * Find partners to sell and deliver certain products.
    * Write a book about e-email marketing

You can make a deal with another entrepreneur that you will promote a front-end training or product. For each sell which is made via that frontend-training or each sell of the product, you will get a commission.

We also do this the other way around. We give commission to partners who bring in a lead or even a sale.

You could also promote certain products and use an affiliate link to that product. For each sale, you will get a commission.

For our main product we do not use a percentage but a fixed fee. Currently, the lead fee is €200, where we do the sale. If someone sells the service the commission is €400

The lead fee is only paid when a sale is made.

    Hi challengers,
Until now I didn’t think that there would be something else to passively get income than selling a book or online courses and getting a commission out of something. In the other assignments, I already had some ideas for a book and online course. The new thing that I just came up with is to record some voice mail texts and sell them to anyone who wants to have a clear, enthusiastic voicemail. Of course, it is not completely passive because of the administration of the webshop, but I can sell them for many years along 🙂

    • Shirley Jane Jasper

Tnx for your answer Ron. If I understand this correctly you get 200 euro’s if you sell a product of someone else (and this product would have a price of ca. …?) You pay 400 if someone else sells a product for you (same question, what would the average price of these products?) I heard some use a 50-50 rate, I wonder if you do the same.

The program of yesterday comes to mind, as I see many possibilities for making instructional videos for schools. So the basic course of papermaking and all the varieties of the choice of wasted fibers. Except for the videos, I like to make working sets for each person/pupil that the teacher can order, so they can start straight away with the video and teaching.

I think it is very nice to have courses on video etc for classes but PLEASE do also go there for 1 lesson. Kids would dearly miss the energy a real person brings when he or she is teaching live. I’ve seen it with my own children. So one ‘real lesson’ and the possibility to show you what they made (and be proud…:-) )

I already developed an online course for helping people to find their way towards healthy eating and losing weight on the way. It is a course of a half year, each week they receive a mail with information concerning food en nutrition, psychology and recipes and assignments – with the possibility of sending them in and getting feedback.
Through my network, I had about 30 people taking part during the year, which went well (people were positive) but was too time-consuming with too little income (so I shifted back to my “normal work” last year),

Now I want to start with writing an easy to read book on the psychology, sociology and biology of eating, mainly because I really feel like doing it. And it might help me in becoming seen as an expert.

    Hi,

I was busy already few times with writing a handbook which will explain to expats what the process is of buying a house in the Netherlands. Now I think that maybe I need to change it into a video. My concern is that because so many videos are there for free on youtube ( although not so many with the information I have to give) that people are so used to watch things for free that they would not like to pay for them.

    What do you think?

I do need more time to define the separate lessons. And I think I can also add articles or checklists to go with each lesson.

I’m inspired and can’t wait to get this one planned 🙂

    1. Brand fix:
If you are starting as a company: a good moment to have a look in depth about what is your Business ” Persona” and a true reflection of your own self-lays the path to be a success as a company. I help you discover your Business personality through your Business identity through different modules based on your requirements.
If you already have a Brand and would like to evaluate as to reposition via website, promotional medium and material…Brandfix is the course for you.
    2. Socialmediafix
I help to have your corporate house style visible in all your visual presence on social media from blog images, facebook cover to Instagram posts.
I also make a customized template with an instruction video so that you can edit your visual material yourself.
For both these courses, I would like to have a partner to give inputs in social media promotion channels…anyone interested?
I am working on it and hopefully, in the future, I shall be able to offer a module online courses.

    Online video training/audio:

How to get from losing control to self-control (almost finished)

    – Where are you now
    – Alternatives

Having ideas is not the problem. Making them real, taking the time to work them out, learn how to do it etc., that is my challenge.
To make a start I made a deal with a friend to make the lesson a mentioned yesterday in an online course for starters.

I also like to make follow-ups that cover the same topics in more depth.
And I like to make online courses on more advanced topics like for instance:

See the repeating negative patterns in your life and how to get rid of them.
Know your own defence mechanism and when to use or lose them.
The influence of words both spoken and thought.
    What thoughts really are.
Knowledge and experience of all the energies surrounding you. What you can do with that.
What your body health or illness can tell you about yourself and tools that that specific knowledge gives you for healing.

And I started to write a book on spirituality, on how the world works and our place in that.

2.Get to know your inner powers
    3.Deal with physical tension
    4.Achieve your goals
    5.Discover what you really want
    6.Get into a powerful mind

The package for each information product:
    • Videos, step by step
    • Assignments by each step
    • If available: written blogs about it (by me, of course) or an e-book

I’m very curious: which information product would you buy immediately?

    Good day to you all!
some of the subjects I am already planning to put online are:
    – how to raise your energy to the highest frequencies while keeping your feet on the ground (video/meditations).
    – how to turn obstacles into friends on your path (e-book).
the book is already made, but I want to translate it into english.. working on that right now.

      Hi Maaike,

I like your topics! The first is really important: so many people seem to get all fluffy and float away on a pink cloud. Or, are so down to earth that they feel obstructed to do the things that will give high energy. You need both to progress, grow and be productive.
Love the second one too. So true: to see the gift of setbacks and obstacles.

Thank you, Shirley-Jane, Yes, to me it seems the most important thing. Then life becomes a journey, or an adventure, at least something interesting and fulfilling. And it keeps you observing yourself, instead of picking on others… essential, too! xxx

Okay, the second one is being translated right now, and then I’ll quickly have to make the first one, then!

But I like your topics as well, being a good parent to your kids is só important, and it needs the parent to deeply look inside, quite often… not easy, but oh, so rewarding! A happy and balanced new generation, what a major gift for the kids ánd for the whole world that would be! One day they will be our decision-makers!

Good subjects! Both seem to have a solution in a contrast, which I like.
Are you planning to publish your e-book in both Dutch and English or do you switch to English? And then: what’s the reason for that?

      Have a nice day,

Your first topic is so important. Without feet on the ground nothing works. Without energy nothing works. Can’t it to see your video.

Passive income is something I’m very interested in, but I’m struggling with how to create an information product. Ideas, anyone? I’m a translator, I work from English into Dutch and I’m specialized in the fields marketing and tourism.

One of my ideas is to write a guide for recently graduated translation students about how to get started as a freelance translator. I know when I graduated, nobody even told me I needed to register with the Chamber of Commerce (KvK)! So basically I figured it all out on my own. I think I can create a PDF and sell it online. What do you guys think?

    Reply
    • Maaike Bressers-Wiersma

Hi Sylvie, that was exactly what I was thinking, too.
And maybe something on how to find translation-jobs to do. I recently found one on a digital-nomad website. Maybe you could even set up a website for companies that look for a translation-job to get done, so translators can subscribe and find their jobs?

      Reply
      • Silvie

        Hi Maaike,

Yes, I would also include how to find jobs. There are plenty of job boards for translators, like ProZ.com, TranslatorCafe, and so on. But new translators don’t know that yet. Thanks for the suggestion!

Actually, I am kind of a digital nomad myself (currently in Gran Canaria), and I was planning to start a blog about that. I will post a link when I have set it up.

      Hi Silvie,

Are translation students your TA? If not: I would make a simple guide, put it out for free, but also have these people do translation work via you and get a part of the commission (that is PI). Because buying the guide from you, but then not seeing that you offer other products that could help me as a starting translator, I would be hesitant to buy from you. Especially if you are competition.

Other products I can think of:
      – How to do simple translations yourself, instruction video = PI (with an addition that you are available to check the text = not PI)
      – Lessons about: what is attractive to a Dutch audience of tourists (I know this is not translation work, but this might get you translation work)

        Hi Elske,

        Thanks for your reply.

Translation students are not my TA, but I feel the need to help them and I think it would be a good start for my first information product. I have talked to some students and they all said a guide would be very helpful. I don’t agree that they would be hesitant to buy from me because I would offer a product they need and I’m an experienced translator, not a webshop. I don’t believe in competition, more in mentoring and sharing, there’s enough work for everyone.

Regarding your other products: how to do translations yourself is not something I want to teach, because the translation is a skill that should be left to the professionals. But I love your other idea, some kind of cultural guide about what works for the Dutch market. I will definitely do some brainstorming about that, thank you!

      Hi Silvie,

That sounds like a good idea! When you felt like you were thrown into the big deep after you graduated, you’ll know exactly what the students from now will experience. Maybe you can broaden that even. How did you start networking? Do you need a website? Do you need to do everything by yourself? What are the benefits of keep having group intervention? Etc. You’ll know this better than me.
I think a lot of young people will be grateful!

      Good luck with it,

    Hi everyone!
One of the online courses that I made is blogging for business owners. At this moment I´m giving it a huge upgrade so it will be the best out there.

Next to that, I made a strategic social media calendar that helps entrepreneurs to get and stay focused. It´s a fysical product that I can ship worldwide. I´m looking for other coaches who would want to collab with one of these two products. If you´re interested, please let me know :).

Another thing that I’m working on is: how to build Facebook communities. More and more of my clients are asking me about it, so I thought to make an online course.

      Reply
      • Kim Buining

The profit of having it in a Facebook community is that people feel a little bit more ‘safe’ in a closed community. When it comes to a website, you know that everyone can read it. Nisandeh does an excellent job, he can make us – I think- feel save enough to share but I know that it can be a challenge to create that yourself if you don’t already have a big audience.

I tried to find the comments on earlier days of the challenge back and I could only do that by clicking on the link the mail of that specific day. So I do not think others outside the challenge group have access to the comments.

Can you tell me what de difference is between a closed Facebook group and a Facebook community?

I’ve been working on the design of a membership site. Yesterday I listed all the subjects I want to cover in 2018. It was very exciting.
    The top titles are,
    Your Personal Mount Everest
    Fall in love with yourself
    Unleash Your Audacious You
    Global work challenges
    Game changers
    High Energy
    Productivity
    Love
    Happiness
    Leadership
    Celebrate and shine
Still designing it, finding the right names and order. I’ll ask my list this week.

What is your goal for your site?

My goal is to build a very exclusive site and have 20 members for whom I will be organizing 4 leadership trips a year to learn more about personal leadership.

My background is incentive travel and my company name is Creatie Travel.

My goal is to make the membership my front end. So I want volume. I’m targeting global millennials, especially those living in the Randstad.
The back end will be other online programs; bigger, more expensive, more specific.
Organizing retreats seem attractive, but I feel that it’s not really my thing now. I don’t want to travel. I want to be at home as much as possible. I got young kids. As soon as they leave, I might follow your steps.

        Dear Kim,

Thank you for pointing out the missing info.

In the general course on Circular Economy, I teach entrepreneurs where to discover new circular ideas. Once they have an idea, we talk about the value creation. The Circular Economy is transforming business models and it is important to know about these options.

        Does this help?

My question to you is: what kind of information are you going to give in your seminars ( online?) ? Are you going to tell for example about the different business models?
          Good luck!

            Dear Michal,
            Thank you for your comment.
In the general section, I talk about what the Circular Economy is. I work with lots of existing examples, but I also open their eyes for more. The Circular Economy is such a systemic shift happening before our eyes that we have to be fully awake and look for opportunities.

I won’t go into too many details regarding the business models because that is the content of my coaching.
However, I will mention one business model. The large manufacturers are moving towards more service because the consumers are moving more from owning to using. An example: Phillips is moving towards selling light instead of selling the equipment because the businesses are interested in having their offices lit up, not necessarily how the light bulb looks like. Therefore, the equipment producers will sell their products to Phillips and others, not to the business around the corner.

The same is happening with appliances. Millennials are decreasingly interested in the ownership. Therefore, if the big manufacturers are selling only the service of the washing machine, who is going to bring the machine to the consumer? Will it be a big market, or will an entrepreneur jump in and say: “Dear AEG, I will take your machine to the consumer and pick up the old one. I might even disassemble the old one and sell valuable parts like iron and copper to you.”

This is just an example. As you can see, we are on a major shift and we need to keep our eyes open for new opportunities. We have the power to shape this shift.

Does this answer your question, Michal?

    • Marieke de Hoop

This sounds very interesting to promote the idea of the circular economy, especially when the reason for the entrepreneurs is a world without waste. Do you only do the informative side (giving lectures and talks) or are you yourself creating in the circular economy? Or are you coaching companies in their transition?

      Reply
      • Gordana Kierans

        Dear Marieke,
        Thank you for your message.
At this point, it is only lecturing and coaching entrepreneurs. I believe in the disruptive force of entrepreneurs and that is why I focus on them. In the this area, the term sustainability has been overused without fundamental changes taking place. The Circular Economy is a true chance to make the shift but it won’t happen if only the old players, who shouted “sustainable” after every product they put on the market, shape the future.
