Day 12 – What goes around…

Hey challenger!

Day 12 of your 30-Day ‘Business Reboot’.

Becoming a Master of influence allows you to get your prospects and clients to take action – whether that is implementing your advice, instructions or recommendations in their life or buying what you suggest them to buy.

In the Master of Influence course, you learn that achieving the status of powerful influencer has nothing to do with sleazy sales techniques, tricks or manipulation. On the contrary – you learn that to be able to get people to take action on your words – you only need 3 things: integrity, information and… an irresistible offer.

For today, let’s start exploring integrity in your sales process by challenging you to activate the Law of Reciprocity. The Law of Reciprocity means that people will be much more inclined to do something for you (like buying your product/service) if you’ve done earlier something for them.

We built a multi-million euro business based almost solely on this principle. For years, we just kept on giving away everything we had, in different ways (from blog articles to PDF reports to e-books, to video courses, to even live trainings…) all for FREE without asking for anything in return.

Slowly but steadily, we built enough goodwill in the market that prospects started to pay good money for our live events…

YOUR ASSIGNMENT – DAY 12

Your challenge for today is:

  • Brainstorm at least 5 ways in which you can give something to your prospects, clients or the marketplace for free, in order to start activating the Law of Reciprocity.

TIPS TO GET THE MAX OUT OF DAY 12

Pro Tip: Go beyond your front-end product. This exercise can go well beyond the free front-end offer(s). It can also be something you can do for your clients and that can help them further, feature them in your communication, send them free valuable information, refer business to them, etc…everything that can activate the Law of Reciprocity.

Pro Tip: Don’t forget to help another challenger. Respond to their comments with feedback on their ideas, and if you can help or cooperate in any way… let them know.

Go ahead and complete your assignment in the comment box below.

    Hi There,

I give a lot eighter in courses, front ends, training or consultations. I give love, attention, ideas, I listen, I give tips on how to tweak their life. They seem to be very happy with that. What I could do more of is: Share tips and content on FB and linked in and in the form of e-books or audios and videos. Thanks for this opportunity. Love, Merel

Reciprocity definitely works! I recommend people to work with someone/a company and when they need someone, they will recommend me in return. I do this at network events, on LinkedIn or other socials.

I also help people with a certain promotional question, give them free advice and they think, ‘aha, Connie knows what she is talking about’ and they will hire me later on for a paid assignment.

I also mention people or companies on social media: nice meeting today with … or at … It gives people a positive feeling when I do this.

I will try to get free publicity for customers; if they are mentioned in newspapers, they are very happy that I got them this extra promotion.

When I make more hours than rated beforehand, I will not charge these extra hours, but will let the customer know that I did this to get the best result and that I would love to work with them another time. It makes them feel a bit obliged to work with me again. Good reciprocity 😉

dankjewel zette vandaag mijn social media ambassadeur #HeForShe op Facebook pagina in het zonnetje en tipte een ideale klant via DM op Twitter over een voor haar zeer interessante tweet!

My one way to overdeliver about which I didnot read is … active participation at an event / Congress by making a compliment and asking a nice to know question.

I do want to share my journey with people that like me and my work. So people can follow me in Instagram, to get peeks into my studio, they can be on the list for the Schoonheid en Leven//Beauty and Life and get a ‘how to watch art aid’ in return , they’ll get an explanation about art in general or my work when they want to know something, when they join and I will add a high resolution picture of a work to this list. It is all about feeling and care. Have a lovely day!

For my TA, Medium to Large Dredging companies, where I help them to get more production from their vessels.

Most of my ideas were already mentioned, but here goes:
    – Webinars
    – E-books
    – 1 on 1 crisis calls when the client has an acute production related crisis
    – Q & A, for groups online

And although not free, what do you guys think of the following ideas:
    * 2 week consultancy for EUR 40.000,- If after the first week they don’t like it, I leave and they get their money back.
    * One-week free consultancy, the client still has to pay out-of-pocket costs ie plane ticket, hotel & lodging. Very strict qualification would be required, otherwise, this could cost way too much time.

What I already do is give people information about how they could solve a health issue with their pet. Give tips about feeding and housing, or advise on woundcare products I think work well. Sometimes I even give away free ‘First Aid’ medication to solve a simple problem.
If they have issues beyond my expertise I refer them to professionals who might be able to help them. (I try to create a network of practitioners / therapists that I trust and hopefully will return the favour when the opportunity occurs.
Most of this ‘happens’ on Facebook.

What I also want to do in trying to get zoo’s and animal shelters (and maybe farmers as well) intersted in homeopathic treatment of their animals, is offer to treat the first animal for free. So not just a free first consultation but a fully free treatment, to show them it can work.

Also my e-book is free and I plan to start blogging regularly and some blogs will have some free ‘how to… ‘ information.

    Hello everybody,

All the things I see from you guys and girls are very good and I think it works. But will it work for me? NO > I will make a questionnaire of shoulder complaints, I will make an E-book, I do give tips on books, films and advice’s in the email when sending the invoice etc etc.

But what makes me happy!: Giving a presentation of my workshop: First Aid by Shoulder problems. And offer a program with some discount for fast decision makers.

I thought I’m old fashioned but it’s the other way, I’m very good at giving a presentation. The other possibilities are not in sink with me as a person. So someone else has to do that. It’s not that I’m afraid, I’m not good at it.

    Warm regards, Marcel

      Hi Marcel,
I agree. I think you should always be open to new ways but do what works for you, what makes you happy, what comes easy and is natural for you. Make use of your talents and strengths. Don’t try to get better at what you are not good at. What makes you stand out is often also what you love doing. According to scientific study optimal human functioning is created by focusing on happiness, strength, personal potential and greatest satisfaction. So don’t focus on fixing the things that are wrong, but focus on what works.

When I read in the comments that people are getting tired of bonuses and free stuff, I recognize that in myself especially when I suspect that they want to sell me something. I also read that most people want to meet the other in person.

    So what is left?

I give a free e-book and blogs. ( more next year)
I give a free training and a free session after answering questions.
If people don’t want to go further after their first session, they don’t pay for that session.
I am preparing an online course and I can give the first episode for free.
All with the intention to sell later on.

So what can I or give for free, besides blogs on other issues than my training, that doesn’t take a lot of time and that stands free from selling later on?

This ‘other end of my business’ is one of the fun parts of being an entrepreneur, of being connected and being visible on each other’s network.

    1. Refer books or job vacancies to the right person in my network, usually on LinkedIn
    2. Ask: How can I help? When I recognize a problem and know someone to solve it.
    3. Contribute to my fellow business reboot challengers and grow together
    4. Share valuable information with other entrepreneurs or garden lovers in my group Gezond leven tuin or in other groups on FB
    5. Send a personal message when connecting with someone and start a conversation how we can be of worth for each other
    6. Feature publication or banner for new Tuincoach Blog partners for free in my monthly newsletter TuinInspiratiemail
    7. Cheer on colleagues and favorite entrepreneurs by commenting on their blogs and posts on FB, LinkedIn, and Twitter
    8. Always engage in valuable conversations in my field or on the topics I love
    9. Be grateful for every positive contribution (time, money, pleasure, blog, photo, etc.) that contributes to a lively garden and express thanks for (re-)shares in my network.

No cost, a limitless investment and it just take up a little time to pay precious attention to someone special!

Wow, Mariette, so many great ideas! I see two things; 1, your feng shui – garden – thing, but 2, your desire to connect with other people and to help and support them. I think you are a great listener, very caring and sensible… How about making a ‘conversation-bench’ in your garden, or mobile, in others’s garden, to listen to their issues and to see if you and/or your network kan assist? xx

      • Mariëtte Verlaan

Dear Maaike, what a lovely reply, thank you!!!

Right on! Those are WONDERFULL ideas to execute and I will start to act and create ‘a conversation bench’ in my new garden in Italy. Just yesterday the prospect opened that this move will actually take place in 2018. A new beginning in the very near future and I am/we are thrilled!!!

I will also give it a major thought with respect to my dream to realize an online platform that supports and ‘shines light’ on creative home & garden (lovers), lifestyle & Feng Shui, ‘aware’ natural health & vitality professionals and energetic (holistic) ‘communication’ entrepreneurs. Life is a garden!

How can I help you? What support do you need or would you like?

    1) It feels a bit silly, but I think it could work wonders: when they ask for a specific service that’s not part of my expertise, or focus, refer them to someone else who is known to do an excellent job (preferably a client, JV partner).
    2) Vlogging
    3) As a free gift for their comment on my blog, grant them access for a month to a special platform (app), that will be a lifetime access when they’re a client.
    4) As a free gift for a comment on my vlog, they get two chapters (very valuable, of course) of my book as a download, a third when they refer someone.
    5) Once a month do a Zoom conference call, a Q & A, on and for a set time, on a specific subject.

While thinking of this assignment I notice that I already do a lot of this stuff (thanks to previous courses). Good to notice! 🙂

    Some old and new ideas:
    • Give a free intake session
    • My blogs to read
    • Give free e-books
    • Give book recommendation (specified to the clients subject)
    • Give checklists (specified to the clients subject)
    • Give extra text or email messages in between coaching sessions
    • Be around daily on Facebook and LinkedIn to answer questions
    • Give free workshops

What do you think of these?

    Goodmorning All,
    1. In conversation, I like to offer my help to someone to find out what they struggle with and how I can give them a tip, an inquiry for insight or a connection within my network. This can be wherever and whenever I meet people.
    2. E-book
    3. Monthly e-books with tips, story, a long read
    4. Checklist: “what to do when…”
    5. Blogs
    6. A relevant book recommendation
I would like to come with something new and more original – these feel like just standard low-level content marketing items everybody else is doing.

It’s all about the money?

Just being open and honest about what you do, no ‘gebakken lucht’, and no sales-talk in the end. (and tell that in the beginning!)
People might start to really like you for that! They might get curious and search around your website to find out more about you. Let them find all they are looking for, and they will go have a look on your products page, I am sure!

I totally agree. People are not crazy. If I think there’s something interesting in it for me, I try, listen and leave. All the values that are added are non-values… I think that if you can tell your message without a sales talk afterward, it will be so much stronger. I am so frustrated about this ‘Challenge’ here that is just a vehicle to get as much money out of old stuff from old students as possible. The challenge is Nisandeh’s. See what I can sell, mine is: do not step in, it’s all about marketing. But I can see now when marketing gets annoying…

My message to Female Speakers/Leaders/Teachers: If speaking (and being heard) burns you out, I’ll help you find your way to speaking with Burning Ease.

    – I can organize free online Masterclasses, p.e.
    * ‘Speaking with Burning Ease’
    * ‘Singing Speaking: Be relaxed, be happy, be radiating and touch the heart of your listeners’.
    – I’ll give a free workshop before I start a new course
    – I can listen to your voice by skype, and use my checklist to give you some feedback
    – We can record your voice, listen to it and speak about it – which inner voices are in the way of speaking with ease?
    – I can make an introductory video: ‘7 voice-issues for recognizing your voice strengths and weaknesses’
    – I can make an introductory video: ‘the 3 most inhibitory inner voices that keep you from speaking with burning ease and how to tame them’.
    – I can give away some video’s on topics like breathing, resonating, improvising, inner voices, ‘passionate preaching’, physical exercises to give space to your voice, helping visualisations
    – I can offer a Creative ThinkingSession, to learn how to speak from head to heart (to toes).
    – Once a month I can offer free entrance in my practice, for people with voice-questions.
    – for women with a love-and-hate relation with speaking in public/on stage, I offer a stage to practice.

Ideas keep popping up. I’ll have to work months to realise them 🙂

These are all possible ideas. When I started brainstorming lots of possibilities popped up. I can’t give this all away, you are right. I will make a list of low, middle and high end products.

          Hi Jolanda,

          Ah, ok that explains 🙂

An idea (if you want): Perhaps you can combine some. So, write out a mail to your subscribers to record their voice. Pick the first 3, 5, 10 (?) and then follow-up with a webinar for everyone who contributed (so you have a target audience). And in that webinar discuss those recording voices, do your magic. So everybody can experience the action.. and then at the end of the webinar, another CTA (perhaps a special deal or something).

Good luck 🙂 Have a great day

Giving a dvd (or online link) to see movies with exercises you can do by yourself, so you are better during the dance classes.

That is great. It would help me. Besides that maybe you can offer a start lesson for free to get to know you. Or the steps on paper. I remember I had those years and years ago. I draw them on the floor to practice.

Hi Margreet. We already give free try out classes for a whole week 3 times a year to meet new people. Steps on paper is a great idea. Thank you!

Hi Naomi, wow a DVD seems like a great thing to keep your prospects remembering you, because it’s physically lying somewhere in the house…

But I’m curious, because it sounds expensive too. Do you give that DVD to everyone? As an opt-in? Or to specific people who already showed serious interest to take that step further?

      Reply
      • Naomi Dongelmans

Hi Arvid. Well a DVD is about €1,50 and I can make the cover myself. I give it to people as a bonus for the subscription for the new season. I also thought about a water bottle with our logo but that’s more expensive. But what do you think about that? Great to have?

        • Arvid Kuipers

          Hi Noami, good morning 🙂

Ah, so those are already your clients then? That makes sense 🙂

Perhaps you can make your clients choose what bonus they want. Either the DVD or the Water bottle.

Idea: Give them both a value of 10 euro (or something). So.. if they choose one of them as a bonus, they might decide later to buy the other (because they want both).

          Have a great day 🙂

Great idea to let them choose between 2 completely different things and then they might buy the other one. Thanks!

          Most welcome Naomi 🙂
          Glad I could help.

    Hello all,

    – Give an e-book.
    – Make e-learning video’s: short ones for free, longer ones to buy.
The more they buy at once, the cheaper it will be.

I will think about this one…..

-Once a month I have the Open PapierLab, the day that you can visit my working space for free and without an appointment and ask the questions about pulp and papermaking you have.
-Each person I meet and shows real interest in the paper gets a special gift as in a piece of paper, with date and resources used.
-On Facebook and LinkedIn I am around to answer questions.
-I organise Craft weekends related to paper, I create a podium for my colleagues and invite them to use it. Giving a workshop, lecture, exposition.
-The yearly paper for Compassion Card is made by people who want to learn the craft (for free) and the Card is a gift to a wider network circle around the paper maker.

Hi Marieke, those made me curious, so I took a look at your website.

I like your idea about pricing – a lot.
May I ask: how do you do that? How do you determine a price for a customer?
Is it all based on trust what a customer is telling you?
And how are the customers responding who have a bigger budget and following the same training?

I could write a little e-book specifically about the importance of your front door (related to Feng Shui), or about what your clutter says about you.

I can do a short Nine Star Ki-analysis of you. Wich elements you are born with (water, wood, fire, earth or metal) and what does it say about you.

I can do a quick scan of the map of your house. So you can see the problem areas, and which parts can use a bit more attention and Why this is So important for you.

Good morning. One thing important I learned from the Business Bootcamp is connecting with people at networking events through giving away something and helping out.

    1. Listening to their experience with the website and possible problems with website builders.
    2. Free e-book with top 5 tips on search engine optimization (SEO)
    3. Personal check of their website and specific SEO tips for them
    4. Free SEO tip in the form of a blog once a month (trying to get back into the routine)
    5. Sharing my experience on networks and facebook groups that could be suitable.

    1. If you buy my €1997 course you can go to my €997 event for free. To entice your prospects to invest now, you can offer a free ticket to an upcoming live event that you are offering. Chances are they were already considering that event anyway, so the event, along with your main offer, would be too irresistible to pass.

    2. If you buy my €1997 course you get these 20 valuable bonuses for free. People love freebies that add value to your main offering. Let the bonuses be things your prospect would have paid for anyway and the must be related to your main offering. They can even be free products of others who offer complementary training.

    3. Offer free workshop and try to sell your training with a discount at the end of the day. During your workshop, you create a gap. A gap is the difference between where your prospects are now and where they want to be. It’s that hunger in your prospects for the better life that your product or service could give them that makes them want your training.

    4. Give a fast-action discount. This is the price you give to people who invest right away. For instance, if your product costs €997, the today only investment could be €497. If your prospects want what you’re offering, they’ll jump for such a great deal.

    5. Put a limiter on your offer, an incentive to act now. If you don’t, your prospects will “think about it” or put off their
investment until “later,” which too often never comes.

Yes. A free workshop, mini-course, free chapters of your book, an ebook etc. You can give them anything. Why? So they will learn to know you and trust you with the result that they will buy from you easier.

      Hoi Yvette,

I like your way of looking at. It’s obvious you want to sell, your straight in it, and also give the possibility to know you.
I have not placed my ideas, I will do it after this comment. I think it will be just one because all the others I will do, but my focus will be on that specific one; workshops/presentations.
What I notice is which form of marketing suits you! I thought I’m old fashioned but it’s the other way, I’m very good at giving a presentation. The other possibilities are not in sink with me as a person. So someone else has to do that. It’s not that I’m afraid, I’m not good at it.

Good morning Hilda, a free yoga class seems a good way to experience what you have to offer and get a feel for what you can expect. For the other freebies, it is more difficult to imagine what it might do or solve. Why not offer a free ‘coffee break’ or ‘tea break’ to discuss one point people may worry about and then chat how you could help and show how you could help there.
