Your Life Plan – part 2
Often life doesn’t go according to plan, because there was no plan.
My message in last week’s article – Your Life Plan – Part 1 – was that if you want to live your dream life – you better plan your life and live (implement) your plan.
I shared with you the 5 mindsets you must adopt in order to create your life plan…
And today… We’re going to talk about your “bucket list”.
Your bucket list includes all the goals, dreams and aspirations you want to achieve BEFORE you die.
However, your bucket list is so much more than just a collection of your goals and dreams.
My bucket list helped me overcome many of my fears (like refusing to serve in the Israeli army and emigrating – twice), gave me an overwhelming sense of accomplishment (like climbing the Kilimanjaro and publishing a book), made me feel totally “alive” (like speaking in front of a 1,000 people and running a marathon) and challenged the routine of my everyday life (like becoming a father and becoming financially free).
Too often the daily life gets in the way of having new experiences or even thinking about what we really want to do, have or be in life.
Creating a Bucket List will focus your intention, provide you with structure and motivate you to step out of your comfort zone. It will expand your mind to new possibilities and make your dreams become a reality.
Interested? I hope so.
And when you write down your Bucket List and refer to it regularly, those dreams become more tangible.
During the Life Plan Design process – you’re going to not only list those dreams, but also design a clear plan how to achieve them… in your lifetime.
For now… Let’s begin with…
Creating your Bucket List.
One of the most important steps in creating your Bucket List is writing it down. So… Get yourself a beautiful notebook, a pen, and some quite time to brainstorm…
Begin by writing down all your hopes, desires and dreams – things you want to do, have, be, experience and achieve. Make sure you are only including items that are meaningful to you. Don’t just add bungee jumping or owning an island just because everyone else seems to put them on their bucket lists.
Don’t exclude anything just because you think it is too difficult or too easy.
Your bucket list is all about having new experiences, getting the most out of life and living it to the fullest.
I find it helpful to break my bucket list into the following categories:
- Health & Wellbeing (e.g. participating yearly in a 4-week Ayurveda Panchakarma retreat)
- Family & Friendship (e.g. creating a Tribe of friends living next to us in Tenerife)
- Personal Development & Spirituality (e.g. learn Tai Chi)
- Business & Finances (e.g. get a company public)
- Contribution & Making a Difference (e.g. get a million members to benefit from Biz Kaizen)
- Experience (e.g. hike the Appalachian trail with Vered)
- Achievement (e.g. run a 100Km ultra marathon, barefoot)
How big should be your list?
There is no exact number of goals that should be on your Bucket List.
I have over 500, but I would recommend to start with at least a 100 with different levels of difficulty.
Most people find it challenging to identify more than 30 or 40, but you don’t want to give up. Get your brain to ‘sweat’, and it will become a lot more powerful in supporting you on your path to achieve these goals.
In the next (and last) article in the series we’re going to cover some of the main strategies you should use to create your life plan…
BUT… When you are ready to start the process and create a life plan that will guide you for the next years and decades of your life, a life plan that will increase your joy, your performance and your results, a life plan that will lead you to live the life of your dreams – I have a great opportunity for you…
